Health & Wellness, A Journey - Part 1
When I moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles in 2008, I was a little over 200 pounds. I knew I needed to loose some weight and get healthier, but to be honest, I didn't know where to start, so I kept delaying it, thinking one day it will happen.
In November of 2009, I signed on to be key make-up artist of Fortress, which to this day is the best time I've had on set, still great friends with much of the cast and crew. I ran around like crazy during principle photography, probably the most movement my body had seen in a few years. By the time we wrapped around Thanksgiving, I realized that my jeans were a little big on me. This was the first realization that I could loose weight. That I could handle this thing I had been putting off.
In the coming months, I started to pay attention to what I was eating. Living in California will open you up to an organic and sustainable lifestyle whether you like it or not. Luckily for me, I liked it, it made sense to me. I decided to buy organic as much as possible (which meant no more sodas, no more fast food - which I'm sure is where I lost majority of the weight from).
Looking back now, I can see that my brian was clouded from eating non-organic, genetically modified, fried southern food. I wasn't functioning normally, I was heavy and lethargic. The saying "you are what you eat" couldn't be more true. Switching to an organic diet and lifestyle has made me lighter (by 40 pounds), smarter (you read a lot of books when your interest is peeked!), and happier.
I was recently in NYC for work and had lunch with a friend from my hometown. Gabrielle St. Claire created Eat. Drink. Shrink. to help bring awareness to living a green & organic lifestyle.
